Blackboard Vista Distance Learning

Online Education: Credit Courses

In many ways, taking an online course is similar to a traditional face-to-face course. You will still have an instructor and fellow students in your class. All of the elements of a traditional course the syllabus, the course material, textbooks, lectures, discussions, tests and grades will be part of your online course. You can access the Blackboard Vista system from any internet connected computer with Java 1.5.

Gateway Community College offers numerous online and hybrid courses using Blackboard Vista, which is an online teaching system available to Connecticut Community College students. Blackboard Vista allows instructors to post materials and communicate with students online.

Online Course Selection
If you would like to see what courses are being offered online, for any given semester, go to the Connecticut Community College's myCommNet , click on Search for Courses (under the Other Public Resources section to the right), click on the Gateway Term you're interested in. Under Instruction Type, click HYBR (online and classroom), ONLN(fully online) or OLCR (online with campus requirement). Follow the links to the Gateway schedules. Are you ready for an online course?

To log on to Blackboard Vista

• Go to http://my.commnet.edu
• Login using your NetID and Password (for more information go to http://www.commnet.edu/netid/netid-faq.asp )
• Click the Login button
• Click on the Blackboard Vista icon in the upper right hand area of your computer screen
• If a Security Alert appears, click Yes
