After you have been admitted to Gateway Community College, you are required to take placement examinations in reading, mathematics and written English. Mathematics and English credits earned from an accredited institution of higher education will be reviewed to determine if a waiver from the tests should be granted. (Students in Business Office Technology may be required to take additional, specialized proficiency examinations.) If your test results indicate any deficiencies, you will be expected to take developmental education courses to raise your capability for success in college-level work.
Students whose primary language is not English will take the LOEP (ESL) and Math Placement test.
As soon as you have been admitted to the college, you will receive a Banner Identification number. Please call the Center for Educational Services (CES) at (203) 285-2217 to schedule a day and time to take your placement test.
Learn more about Center for Educational Services and the placement tests. The Center For Educational Services is located on the Long Wharf Campus, room 142.
